We all do that right? We keep looking back and try to walk forward! Can we really do that? What if we looked forward and walked straight ahead? The path will be clearer and safer, right? But we wouldn’t do that! We wouldn’t let go!
What has happened has already happened. Even if you try and keep thinking about it, you cannot go back and change anything. But imagine, you are here today, thinking about what happened 2 years back, and trying to move forward in your life!!! Where will you reach? It is exactly like trying to walk forward turning your back. If you walk forward, you will go in the opposite direction, if you walk backwards, you have no clue what lays ahead of you.
Yes, we learn from our past experiences. Hold them close to your brain, but don’t get too emotional. You need to let go. You need to move ahead. Otherwise, you may be blocking the ways for those coming behind you. They may stumble upon you and feel congested. But no one can help you go back and amend the past. The moment we realise and accept that we will be able to move ahead in life.
But we like drama, right? So we cling on to the past. Keep reminding ourselves that we must never forget. But we forget what’s happening now. So for something that happened 2 years back, if you are losing your mind now, you have already lost 2 years and it’s ongoing. By the time you realise that what’s gone is gone forever, you would have lost many more months and years that you will never get back again!
Certain things, certain people cannot be changed. The sooner we accept it, the better for ourselves. Instead of trying to change others, why not change ourselves? Change the way we deal with them instead of expecting them to change. Let that change happen within the self. Change for better.
Accept the facts, especially if it’s a thing of the past. You cannot go back in time and change anything. Instead, focus on learning from it and never making mistakes again. If those are memories you miss, cherish them and express them creatively. Write about it, share it with someone close to you, paint, sing, dance – express it. Let go of the past! Live in the present.
Think about the present. It is more important that you live now! You did live yesterday if you are living today. But whether you live tomorrow is not confirmed. So make the most of today. This is your best day. Start every day telling yourself that you are going to make the most of today.
Don’t get too anxious about tomorrow. Just as you cannot control your past, you cannot control your future also. You can only be prepared for a better tomorrow. No matter what has happened, if you have survived today, you will be ready for tomorrow too. Anxiety will not make it better for sure. Yes, things can go worse. But that’s yet to happen, right? Who knows, whether it will happen or not?!!
When you look back, try to reason why something happened. Learn from the reason. Look at things from different perspectives – you, the other person and a 3rd person! Ask yourself – Why did I do that? Why did he/she do that? Why did they do that? If you can convince yourself, you win. That may provide you with the reason. Once you know why something happened the way it did, it is best to leave it there. Let it become a memory rather than a nightmare.
Let things happen. Let life unfold on its own. That’s the beauty. That’s the mystery. As long as you have no control over your past and future, the best thing to do is to enjoy your present. Have trust, be positive and things will all fall into place soon. Just keep doing your part, and leave the rest to the unknown. Let it be a mystery, that unfolds every day.
